AFTER THE INJURY – THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA RESEARCH INSTITUTE

This website was developed by an interdisciplinary team of researchers and practitioners with expertise in pediatric injury, child health care, and traumatic stress. Since 1996, this team at The Center for Injury Research and Prevention has been at the forefront of research about the effect of injury on children and their parents.

AMERICAN BURN ASSOCIATION

The American Burn Association and its members dedicate their efforts and resources to promoting and supporting burn-related research, education, care, rehabilitation, and prevention. The ABA has more than 2,000 members in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Members include physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, researchers, social workers, fire fighters, and hospitals with burn centers. Our multidisciplinary membership enhances our ability to work toward common goals with other organizations on educational programs.

AMERICAN CONGRESS OF REHABILITATION MEDICINE

An association created to improve lives of individuals with disability.

AMPUTEE COALITION

Amputee Coalition’s mission is to reach out to and empower people affected by limb loss to achieve their full potential through education, support and advocacy, and to promote limb loss prevention.

BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA

Everyone in the U.S. who sustains a brain injury is diagnosed, treated, and accepted. The mission is to advance awareness, treatment, and education and to improve the quality of life for all people affected by brain injury.

BRAIN TRAUMA FOUNDATION

For over 30 years, Brain Trauma Foundation has been conducting innovative clinical research and developing evidence-based guidelines that improve outcomes for the millions of people who suffer from traumatic brain injuries every year.

CHRISTOPHER & DANA REEVE FOUNDATION

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by advancing innovative research and improving quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis. There are many ways to get support, get involved and donate to support the Reeve Foundation mission.

DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS

DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year.

ACT FOR LIFE SERVICES

ACT for Life Services believes that no person should have to live their life in loneliness and isolation because of a disability. They are a non-profit organization established to provide a secure future to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities.

FACING DISABILITY

FacingDisability.com connects families who suddenly have to deal with a spinal cord injury to people like them who have already been there.

LIMBS FOR LIFE FOUNDATION

Limbs for Life is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to providing fully-functional prosthetic care for individuals who cannot otherwise afford it and raising awareness of the challenges facing amputees.

LOVE YOUR BRAIN FOUNDATION

The LoveYourBrain Foundation is a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life of people affected by traumatic brain injury and raises awareness about the importance of brain health. They host the LoveYourBrain Yoga Program and LoveYourBrain Mindset Program.

MOBILITY INTERNATIONAL USA

Founded in 1981, Mobility International USA (MIUSA) is a disability-led non-profit organization headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, USA advancing disability rights and leadership globally.¨ By implementing innovative programs, we are building bridges to create a new era where people with disabilities will take their rightful place in the world community. MIUSA is a cross-disability organization serving people with a broad range of disabilities.

MODEL SYSTEMS KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION CENTER

The MSKTC is a national center that helps facilitate the knowledge translation process to make research meaningful to those with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury and Burn Injury.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE HEAD INJURY ADMINISTRATORS (NASHIA)

Serving as the leading source of information and education for state employees who support public brain injury programs, NASHIA provides information on national trends, best practices, and state contacts to federal agencies, state and national associations and TBI stakeholders across the country. NASHIA provides technical assistance to state governments and their partners as well as collective representation on federal policy issues through its membership.

NATIONAL CENTER ON PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND DISABILITY (NCHPAD)

NCHPAD seeks to help people with disability and other chronic health conditions achieve health benefits through increased participation in all types of physical and social activities, including fitness and aquatic activities, recreational and sports programs, adaptive equipment usage, and more.

NATIONAL ORGANIZATION ON DISABILITY

The National Organization on Disability (NOD) increases employment opportunities for Americans with disabilities and has programs and services tp enable companies to realize the competitive advantages of hiring people with disabilities.

NATIONAL REHABILITATION INFORMATION CENTER (NARIC)

The National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC) is the library of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR). They collect, catalog, and disseminate the articles, reports, curricula, guides, and other publications and products of the research projects funded by NIDILRR. NIDILRR funds more than 250 projects each year that conduct research on a wide range of issues including technology, health and function, independent living, and capacity building.

OFFICE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION SERVICES (OSERS)

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) is dedicated to improving results for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities ages birth through 21 by providing leadership and financial support to assist states and local districts.

PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA

Since 1946, Paralyzed Veterans of America has been on a mission to change lives and build brighter futures for our seriously injured heroes. We’ve had a single-minded mission—to empower our brave men and women to regain what they fought for: their freedom and independence.

PRIDE INDUSTRIES HEADQUARTERS

Founded in 1966, PRIDE Industries’ mission is to create employment for people with disabilities. PRIDE Industries proves the value of its inclusive workforce model through operational success across multiple industries every day.

REHABILITATION ENGINEERING AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA (RESNA)

RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America, is the premier professional organization dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of people with disabilities through increasing access to technology solutions. RESNA advances the field by offering certification, continuing education, and professional development; developing assistive technology standards; promoting research and public policy; and sponsoring forums for the exchange of information and ideas to meet the needs of our multidisciplinary constituency. RESNA is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit membership association.

SHEPHERD CENTER: BRAIN & SPINAL CORD INJURY REHABILITATION

Shepherd Center, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spine and chronic pain, and other neuromuscular conditions.

SOUTHWEST ADA CENTER

The Southwest ADA Center is the Southwest’s leading resource on the Americans with Disabilities Act and related disability rights laws. The Center is part of the ADA National Network funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).The Center’s mission is to promote voluntary compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by providing three core services — technical assistance, training and materials dissemination. Activities designed to carry out the mission in Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana are facilitated through the home office in Houston, TX as well as its affiliates.

THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (AAPD)

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is a convener, connector, and catalyst for change, increasing the political and economic power of people with disabilities. As a national cross-disability rights organization, AAPD advocates for full civil rights for the over 60 million Americans with disabilities by promoting equal opportunity, economic power, independent living, and political participation.

THE NATIONAL CONSUMER VOICE FOR QUALITY LONG-TERM CARE

The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care was formed as NCCNHR (National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform) in 1975 because of public concern about substandard care in nursing homes.

THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE – DISABILITY RIGHTS SECTION

The Disability Rights Section works to achieve equal opportunity for people with disabilities in the United States by implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

TRAVIS ROY FOUNDATION

The Travis Roy Foundation is dedicated to helping spinal cord injury survivors live more independent and hopeful lives through adaptive equipment grants and funding scientific research focused on solving paralysis-related challenges.

UNITED SPINAL ASSOCIATION

United Spinal Association is dedicated to empowering people with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D), including veterans, to live successful and fulfilling lives.

UNITED STATES ACCESS BOARD

The Access Board is an independent federal agency that promotes equality for people with disabilities through leadership in accessible design and the development of accessibility guidelines and standards.

AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)

The ADA is one of America’s most comprehensive pieces of civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life — to enjoy employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, and to participate in State and local government programs and services.
